City Bus (ex-Anbessa and Sheger), minibus taxis, or Ride/Feres: how do you actually choose in Addis today?

Open · waiting for the first reply

Getting around Addis means choosing between several modes. - City buses: in 2023 Anbessa City Bus Service Enterprise merged with Sheger Bus into one operator now called City Bus. Buses may still show the old names and liveries. Fares: check current rate with the operator or the Addis Ababa transport bureau. - Ride-hailing: Feres and Ride are reported to hold most of the market (Shega). Flag-down prices have been reported at around 100 birr. That figure is from a secondary source and may be out of date. Always check the fare shown in the app before confirming. Tips that hold regardless of the exact numbers: - Compare the in-app fare between apps for the same trip. - Ask whether the fare is metered or fixed before you get in. I want this thread to become the real guide. What do you pay on your usual route, at what time of day? Which mode do you trust at night or in the rainy season? Add your recent experience and the date.
