Where is the best place to experience Meskel celebrations?

First Meskel back home in years. Is Meskel Square still the main event, or are smaller neighborhood Demera bonfires a better experience with kids?

Most helpful Do both: the square for the spectacle in the afternoon, then your neighborhood Demera at night. The neighborhood one is where you'll actually feel it.20- With kids, get to the square early and stay near the edges. It gets very crowded close to the lighting.8
